Workers in this unit group plan and carry out the necessary operations to grow and harvest corn for sale or delivery on a regular basis to wholesale buyers, marketing organizations or at markets. They may grow other secondary crops. Their tasks include: a) determining the kinds and amounts of corn to be grown; b) purchasing seeds, fertilizer and other supplies; c) renting or investing in land and land improvements, buildings, working animals, equipment and machinery; d) performing farm operations such as land preparation, sowing, planting cultivating and harvesting corn; e) storing and carrying out some basic processing of corn; f) tending working animals and maintaining farm buildings, machinery and equipment; g) delivering or marketing farm products.
